Jay's background in theatre led to years of involvement in the non-profit sector, where he has been a teaching artist, curriculum development specialist, and faculty trainer in New York and elsewhere. His work in theatre education has ranged from community resilience and arts leadership training in post-Katrina New Orleans to guest teaching at the world-renowned Yale School of Drama.
A former faculty member of Chicago’s world-famous Second City Theatre, Jay co-founded the acclaimed theatre companies Pig Iron and Flying Carpet and is a founding member of the legendary New York improvised comedy-theatre groups Burn Manhattan and Centralia. As an actor, Jay has performed classic plays and created parts in new works including a starring role in the world-premiere production of the Tony award-winning musical Urinetown.
Jay Rhoderick has taught improvisation to hundreds of managers, executives and professionals at all levels for fifteen years. He has strengthened teams and developed public speaking and collaboration skills at many Fortune 500 companies and leading international firms, including
Dow Jones, HSBC, Merck, Citigroup, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. One of Jay’s top assignments was coaching US Olympic athletes in media awareness in preparation for the Beijing Games.
